Disney Heroes - Kocoum by davidkawena Disney Heroes - Kocoum by davidkawena
:megaphone: - now if full HQ version

'The face of you
My substitute for love
My substitute for love
Should I wait for you
My substitute for love
My substitute for love'

Kocoum - (from "Pocahontas") the newest addition to my "Disney Heroes Collection"

I was 12 years old, exactly 12 years ago, still remember the first time... It was wonderful, tragic...
During the past month I viewed the miracle that it is "Pocahontas" to me 3 times... I stopped counting the amounts of times I've seen this movie, but the way it impacts me never fades away.

Kocoum (aside of Poca, Meeko and Flit) is may favourite from the movie, words cannot explain what I feel towards this character. He's jalousie, angry, faithful and loving. So un-perfect... With this said, I wanted his portrait for the series to be different from the rest. I also wanted him to be more 'happy' then in the movie, so I drew him standing in front of the camera, smiling, with the bear paws on his chest...
but it felt like it's too straight forward, too happy maybe... looking for inspiration, I came across a picture in a magazine and it hit me, this is Kocoum! Got back to work,
and back to the 'original' Kocoum - powerful, brave and so serious, trying to keep it all as simple as possible I didn't add to much details and this is the result...

Hope you'll like it

Who hasn't visualised the men of Disney in their underwear begore? Thanks to *davidkawena, a little-known but incredible animation-style artist here on dA, it's no longer left to our imagination. His gallery is full of marvellous pieces but the 'Disney Heroes' series, Calvin-Klein-style "underwear shoots" featuring our favourite Disney men, is the standout offering. I chose Disney Heroes - Kocoum as the piece to feature, but if you're a Tarzan fan, or if your tastes run more in the Hercules or Jim Hawkins direction, there's something here for you too. ok so tell me what you think of this pairing: Kocoum and Ariel? Ariel is adopted by Powhatan but lives of and on with the mermaids since she is still in mermaid form. She falls in love with Kocoum but Pocohantas' dad still wants him to marry Pocahantas because she is the eldest. But right before Kocoum is shot, Ariel convinces Powhatan to change his mind and he gives the couple his blessing. Needless to say, Ariel never hooks up with Eric. She makes the deal with the seawitch because she wants to live with the humans and it is hard for her to move around on land in her current form. She kisses Kocoum but the seawitch doesn't accept it. Ariel kills the seawitch with a spear (because Disney loves violent deaths) and despite his better judgement Triton heals Kocoum, making a huge peace between the Native Americans and the mermaids. In the end Ariel and Kocoum marry and Pocahantas goes on to England in the second movie to find her second man, John Rolfe.

Oh my goodness... characters I almost (forgot!!!!!!!!) are coming back from their hiding in my memories. And Kocoum sure was always nice to look at....but that picture of him is just...well...wow!!!!!!!!! Thank you for that drawing....and I agree with all the other fans...I wish he would have survived and we got to know more about his character etc. Though he obviously never would have gotten Pocahontas....but there's still Nakoma (who I loved dearly in the film!)...and well, I'd take him too :-P
