Finally - another hero to add to the collection, and the final addition to the Pocahontas section! (sorry guys, Wiggins and Radcliffe will NOT be a part of the Heroes! )
Thomas was the sweetest guy ever! Don't you think?! He was a young boy, going on a voyage to discover new worlds... and with Captain John Smith too! All of this kind of put Thomas in a difficult place, trying to prove himself as good sailor, and as a man, not a boy. Obviously these things, and being away from home and worrying for his idol Smith, Thomas maid the horrible decision of killing Kocoum that made me hate him for a while, but as I said he was a good guy in his heart, and if Poca herself forgave him, who am I not to?!
I really love this character and I think that his supervising animator Ken Duncan and his team made a fantastic job on him in the movie, and on his design!
This one was a bit harder to do then the others as - surprising as it is, coming from a Poca fan like me - I didn't had many good model-sheets for him body wise. Kocoum is half nude in the film, and Smith appears shirtless in the galleries on the 10th Anniversary Edition DVD of Pocahontas... But I think I did managed to capture his somewhat younger body and attitude in this one.
Again, it's influenced with some minor Native American stuff, much less then Smith's picture, but it's there. Always had this vision in my head that Thomas - who stayed in Virginia - would embrace the Native ways as well, and get married to Nakoma! They would've made an awesome couple, don't you think?
Hope you'll like this one! Have an ENCHANTED Day everybody!
Keep an eye on the next 'Disney Hero' in line who comes straight up from the deep ocean's blue...
I liked Thomas better that John too, because he has that boy next door vibe, which I prefer over John's macho machismo.
I love thois art because it still captures Thomas' young innocence and vulnerability, but also made seductive, and a bit mischievous. From adorable to sexy. Look at him, it's like he's teasing you but he plays dumb as if he's all sweet and innocent.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I definitely agree. He's still innocent, but he's beginning to come forth and be a little more adventurous and mischievous.
I agree that you managed to capture Thomas perfectly. And yes, he's totally cute in the movie...though I wanted to bang my head on the table when he killed Kocoum... The only thing I don't agree with, is that he marries Nakoma. No way!!!!!!! I keep shipping her with Kocoum!!!!!!!!!! If he'd survived the whole film....except for this I suppose I ould accept this pairing
