I think that POCAHONTAS is the top example of brilliant art direction for an animated film, or any kind of film! The creative team who worked on this movie and on bringing it's world to visual life had created one of the most complex fantasy-realism world unlike anything that ever came out of the Disney studios, and can only be compared to the brilliance of "Sleeping Beauty" art! I will never forget my first impression of "The New World" that we as an audience entered to, with John Smith and his crew of the Virginia Company. The colours, the details, the shapes... it all adds up to the most beautiful place I've ever seen - And when I first saw the movie, I thought, if heaven is a real place it would look like the world of Pocahontas...

These are backgrounds art I drew way back in 2005 when I started to work on the 10 Anniversary drawing of Pocahontas... I drew these 2 drawings for possible backgrounds and then left the drawing down for a whole 2 years ( ! ) and only then I started to re-developed the idea. The result was my 12 Anniversary drawing in honour of Pocahontas - my all time favourite movie!

You can view the final drawing here: [link]

As you can see I only used the bottom background in the final drawing... Now that I'm looking at the first one, I already have like 3 different visuals of what I can do with it... Who knows, maybe it's about time I'll draw some new Poca fan arts huh?! ;P

They really look like they came from the movie! Of course, you are so brilliant at on-model Disney work, I swear you must be an animator for them :) *bows to you*

Pocahontas was not my favourite Disney animated feature, but it was certainly beautiful and extremely skillfully rendered (and the chars were hot, lol).

God, I love that movie. The colors just BLEW ME AWAY. All that purple and blue fit SO nicely together...
Gosh, It makes me so sad to see that Disney's passed these kinds of movies. :(

On a brighter note, I think we would all love to see some Pocahontas art from you! :)
